There's a new series this week!! Welcome to Super Psychic Policeman Chojo!

Another week and it's time for Shonen Jump! Unlike previous weeks, there's no rhyme or reason to the ordering this week.
I started this late, and I'm writing most of it at the time the next week's chapters are out! Sorry!

This week is missing One Piece and My Hero Academia. MHA missing again? Horikoshi please...

Again! Be wary of spoilers! These are the latest chapters! They will have spoilers.

Also, click here to go to the Viz website, where all of these series have the latest 3 chapters free to read!

That means these chapters are free at the time of writing this! Go give the series some support!!

Sakamoto Days 154

This arc has been insane
Seriously, this has been some of the most incredible pages of manga I've ever read.
And it keeps staying good, too.
I don't know how Suzuki keeps it paced so well, but MAN it's good.

I absolutely love the page where Nagumo stabs Slur, it's just an incredible full page.
I keep going back to it and looking at it, haha.
Like, it's the first page of the chapter! How is it so good??
And the way the chapters have been bouncing between action scenes has been so great.
It keeps me on my toes, and I can never really feel like I anticipate anything that's going to happen.
I am a tad worried about Nagumo and Slur, but only slightly.

And we're even getting some good focus on Shin.
I really like Shin, he's grown so much over the series, but you can tell he's still growing.
The way he just casually protects Shishiba... Nice!
This fight is going to be great.
I seriously loved the part where Shishiba asks Shin his experience.
Very funny exchange, haha.
Man, and that two page spread of Shin protecting Sakamoto was very exciting.

I cannot stress this enough... I really want the next chapter already!
It's so exciting, I love this arc!

Oh my goodness, Sadico is an insane woman.
I really really did not see that coming.
I mean, I know the series is leaning hard into the harem, but wow.
Even to the point of putting Elysia into a bunnygirl suit.
Not sure how I feel about that, haha.
Sadico definitely has a really cool design, so I am excited to see more about her.

That being said, the overall chapter was really good.
If you don't like the direction the series is going, I get it, but I think it's still very apparent that the artist cares and is doing the best with the new direction that they can.
Really, the chapter was really fun and still stylistic enough for that to be apparent.
I really like Negima and YuYu Hakusho, and those series dramatically change after a couple volumes, so I'm fine with letting it keep trying until it finds a solid footing.
Genuinely, if the small mouse Monika wasn't your cup of tea, I get it, but I'm enjoying it!

I really hope I don't regret saying all that!
This chapter was good.
The use of the haunted house horror to set the stage for Sadico was really effective.
It let Elysia get captured in a way that doesn't feel like a stretch, while setting a tone for Sadico.
And then Sadico jumps out of the door, not looking like you would expect after the set up.
It's good! I liked it.
Here's hoping next week is just as good.

Me & Roboco hmmm

Super Psychic Policeman Chojo 1

Yeah, a new series and it's a gag series.
Actually, I really like gag manga. I have fond memories of High School Family or Ichigoki, I really do.
And considering that the only actual gag manga in the magazine right now is Roboco, this is really welcome in my opinion!
Which is why I'm happy that this first chapter was really good.

It's a very solid first chapter.
The jokes are all well planned, the setting and characters are communicated well, and the general atmosphere is very apparent.
In particular, I liked how there was an actual payoff to the drunk guy with the cell phone.
He shows up immediately, and you think it's just to establish how mediocre the psychic power is used.
Then the drunk guy shows up in lieu of the expected hero.
That seems good enough of a reason to have included the guy at the beginning, but in reality that's not the case.
It turns out that this drunk guy was used in both instances to show the reader and MC that Chojo likes to protect things that are important to other people.
Without directly telling you that Chojo is a caring person, you are shown it through a way that is easy for a kid to understand.
You can tell they worked a lot on making this first chapter sturdy.

The art is also pretty solid, the characters are designed in a streamlined friendly way that works well with gag stories, and the paneling is used well.
It feels very modern, while showing off a distinct understanding of how shonen manga functions.
I feel hopeful that this series can have really interesting designs and chapters, but at the same time I worry that the faces will be the main focus of every character.

If you go into it without the mindset of it being a silly childrens joke manga, you'll be disappointed.
For me? I really liked it. I think it has a lot of potential with the setting and the characters.
I mean, this kind of story can really go anywhere and change at a moments notice.
Super Psychich Policeman Chojo is clearly influenced by Gintama, so if the author really understands what made Gintama a great series, this could be a good time.
Who knows though, this is only chapter 1!
Here's hoping the next few don't make me hate it, haha!
